I like Melody. I think it looks pretty and balanced, and I like that it's less nasally than Melanie. It's a word name that doesn't offend; pretty innocent meaning that most people could get on board with.
I don't think it's tacky, and even if it was that's generally something that's not my concern. There are a lot of word names that tend to be on the cusp there, but I don't think of Melody as one of them anyway. To me it's in the same category as Summer, April, and Dawn: they were once seen as hippy-ish maybe in the 60s or 70s, but now they're pretty mainstream.
