Natalia [63]--10 YEARS LATERNastya blames Igor's competitive spirit, when one of their children has been to the Olympics and won two silver medals, and another two are headed there this year. And all in three completely different sports. Another of their children has just graduated from Julliard with a spot in the New York Symphony lined up, and their youngest daughter has been recruited by the Bolshoi to dance for them. Julia had a slow rise in the figure skating world. She had a couple of international assignments as a junior, but didn't turn senior until she had to, and that first year, didn't get any internationals. Slowly but surely, she improved every aspect of her skating, from her consistency to her toe point. And it paid off. Her second year as a senior, she won her first summer competition, ahead of last year's national bronze medalist. And by nationals, she was good enough for silver, and a trip to her first World Championships, where she placed a respectable 8th. The next season, the Olympic season, she was nearly unstoppable, with her only challenge coming from Russian wunderkind Angelina Popova, who ended up besting her at the Olympics. Yuri ended up being a sort of prodigy in the archery world, winning nearly every competition he entered as a kid, and as a young teenager. He fell into a sort of slump when he graduated high school, and everyone worried about him. Eventually someone realized that he really did just need glasses, and that was all it took to put him back on top. He goes into the Olympics as a favorite for gold. As much of a prodigy in the archery world as Yuri was, Roman was in the music world. He entered competitions and won. All of them. He hardly ever played a note wrong. He started composing, and eventually found his calling in film scores. By the time he graduated from Julliard, he'd scored four movies already. And Tasha. Tasha was a wunderkind. She qualified as an elite gymnast at age 10, and immediately proceeded to win silver on beam at the Junior National Championships, where she bested girls who had been doing gymnastics for as long as she'd been alive. Her specialties became beam and bars, where she could keep pace with the best in the world, but her vault and floor were finals-worthy as well. She'd broken her leg the week she was meant to qualify for the Olympics four years ago, but now she's had a chance to improve, upgrade, and refine her skills to enter the competition as a favorite. (Yes, the media is having a ball with the Pavlovsky siblings). Anya started dancing when Nastya put her in a ballet class that coincided with the class Julia was taking for skating, just to keep her occupied. Well, she took to ballet like she was born to do it. She trained in every style while she was younger, competing with her team as well as in solos, but ballet was her true love, and she started laser focusing on it when she was fourteen. That focus, and her ability to speak fluent Russian, caught the Bolshoi's eye. She auditioned, and they invited her for a summer intensive before her senior year. Evidently she impressed them, and they've invited her back as a full member.DH: Igor Arseniyevich Pavlovsky [51]
