The first year of life at Formaggio Estate went well for both families. The Lord and Lady welcomed a baby girl and DH2 and DW2 had a baby boy. Shortly after, a man from another village came running to the Estate, got to the Lord and Lady's front door, and collapsed from exhaustion. When he woke up an hour later, he warned the Lord and Lady that the Republic of Siena was leading an army to Florence, raiding estates as they went. So the Lord and Lady and the other families living on the estate fled to the neighboring Republic of Lucca. (suggested question: how did they get to Lucca? Where did they go? What happened?)
Two years later, the Lord and Lady and the rest of the families returned to their estate, finding it in an only slightly worse condition than it was before. A few things were stolen and the fields had been harvested by the army, but nothing serious. Both families returned with a baby boy, but the Lord and Lady's son sadly died when he was 5 months old.
The Lord and Lady have just had another son, and DH2 and DW2 had a daughter last year.

As she continued to work for and with Tullia, Anastasia took some convincing to have children. When Tullia asked why she didn't have any, Anastasia shrugged and made up some excuse about not liking Jacopo that much. Tullia pressed and pressed until Anastasia told her everything, divulging all her fears about the process and revealing that the couple, despite being married for a couple years already, had never lain with each other in that way. Shocked, Tullia reassured Anastasia and convinced her that it would not be what she feared.
Before they knew it, Anastasia had reconnected with Jacopo and was pregnant at about the same time Tullia was going into labor with Ippolita.
Their time off the estate helped to solidify the relationships between both couples as well as the frie ship between Anastasia and Tullia. When both women became pregnant again around the same time, they rejoiced. They chatted about how their children would become fast friends despite their status differences. However, when Tullia's Benedetto passed unexoectedly, Anastasia started to bring her Matteo over when she went to help Tullia. Tullia bonded with Matteo just as much as he bonded with his own mother. Having Matteo around helped lift the spirits of all in the da Vigo family and household, for even though he wasn't Benedetto he filled the space left by thelittle boy.
When Anastasia became pregnant less than a year after Matteo's birth, Tullia fell into a jealous rut. Why did her friend not only get to keep her little boy but have the privilege of welcoming yet another child into her family? Anastasia hadn't even wanted children five years ago! And now she had three? Tullia told Anastasia to stay at home with her children rather than help her out with hers.
Until Tullia discovered she was expecting a third child herself. The minute she knew, she called Anastasia back over. Tullia knew she would never be able to go through her pregnancy without the aid of her good friend Anastasia. After exchanging apologies, they returned to their friendship.

As soon as Alessandro and Catalina were informed of the approaching army, they left the estate with Paolo and Lucia immediately. Then, the army caught up with them. Alessandro panicked, trying to think of a reason for the army to not kill them. Lucia thought of an excuse first. She told them that they were peasants from Siena, with nowhere to go except for their family in Lucca. The commander looked skeptical, but let them pass.
Once they did arrive in Lucca, though, they had no idea where to go. They didn't know anyone, and they hadn't brought anything with them. So they sold Catalina's jewelry, hoping it would be enough to rent a small house, but it wasn't. Unsure of what to do, they resorted to thievery. Lucia, being the smallest and cleverest, sneaked into a jewelry store and stole some necklaces, but the owner caught her as she was leaving. She tried to lie about what she was doing there (she claimed to have mistook it for her house) but he didn't believe her.
Hoping he would pity her and let her go, Lucia confessed. Luckily, Salvatore Rosso was a kind man, and he let the two families live in the attic. While Magdalena and Gabbriello slept and cried and did altogether very little, their parents helped Salvatore and his wife, Fiora, in the store. Salvatore's business improved, and when the familes went back to their estate, they promised to write to Salvatore and Fiora.

Sadly, the Lord and Lady's son died when he was 5 months old. The little heir to the estate’s death devastated his parents, and Lina, in particular, was bedridden in grief for weeks. When their next child came along and was also a son, they named him Lazzero Salvadore “Lazo” because, like Lazarus rising from the grave, Lina and the family’s happiness, was “saved” by his joyful infant presence. Dani and Stella had a daughter, Fiora Agnese “Fia” last year.
