[Opinions] Re: Marigold or Stella
in reply to a message by AugustEvelyn
If I met a baby Marigold, I'd be ecstatic. It's a beautiful and underused name. I love the connection to the flower, and the nn Goldie is too cute. I'm sorry your family wasn't more supportive.
Stella is pretty too, and Stella Marigold is a gorgeous combo. But Stella leaves less of an impression in my opinion. It blends in with all the Ellas and names that end in -ella such as Isabella, Gabriella, Annabella, etc. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It just depends what's important to you and what you want in a name.
I find it's helpful to make a poll because, generally, I know in my heart which name or combo I want to see win the poll. And if one wins, and I feel disappointed, then I know which name I truly prefer.
You could always combine the two and use Maristella or Maristela.

Thank you Dianatiger and sambchop! You're right, Marigold is our preference, but we are truly torn after bringing it up to people. If people, in general, think the name is so ridiculous and "dumb," as one so delicately called it, what will an employer think? What will her peers think? Will people assume based on her name alone? This is what's been keeping me up at night. I'll be super interested what other people say about the name good or bad. I appreciate your input. Sam, I really like how you said that "Stella" doesn't leave an impression like "Marigold." I feel the same way. Stella is pretty but Marigold sounds elegant and cool to me. I like your ideas: Maristella/Maristela, I'll run it by my husband. My baby is very likey to be a redhead like me and my son. How cool would a curly redheaded Marigold be? *Swoon*
Also.. sorry about my typos everyone! I'm the typo queen. :). Also.. please feel free to give me a reality check if you guys dislike Marigold or just prefer Stella.

I would hire a Marigold. You have to remember: the naming pool as a whole that generation is significantly more eccentric & diverse as a whole. By the time she is old enough to fill out job applications, her potential employers won't even bat an eye at it compared to some of the names of her same aged peers. Would Marigold be weird 25 or 30 years ago? Yes. Present day? I'm shocked by very little after all the "bad" names I have heard. Remember the crowd she will grow up apart of.
