I have several Gatsys in my ancestry, spelled Gatsey and Gatsie too. All born in NC and Georgia between early 1800s and 1900. We’ve never found a different full and proper name, just Gatsy. We’re kinda figuring by the mid to late 1800s it was simply a tradition since everyone always named some of their kids after themselves or siblings. Would love to look into the suggestion that there may have been a famous Gatsy.
