I only know it to be a girl's name. I knew a girl named this throughout school, who I didn't care for, and for valid reasons. Every time I think of the name, I unfortunately think of her. The name is undoubtedly different, but I'm sure if it wasn't for having that association, I would be a little bit more okay with it. I don't care for Seq at all.
Also, Sequoia derives from a name of a tree. Seems very unlikely for it to mean sparrow.
