[Opinions] Re: Delfina
in reply to a message by Wordsmith
Hi!
Wordsmith, Delfina Is a fascinating, beautiful name. The sibset Delfina & Bibiana is great (I love rare names but actually a lot of Italians would say that they are too uncommon). Italian taste about names is often very classic and traditional with around 30 names for each gender being very overused and all the others considered rare. The situation has been changing but very slowly compared with other European countries. I hope it will go faster very soon.
About Delfina and Bibiana in 2021 (latest data, 2022 ranking due in December):
*Delfina was used for 5 babies born that year (#1679)
*Bibiana was not used for any baby (but 1 in 2020)
This was exactly what I was saying: these names are not so strange. Why are they used for a couple of children (or not used at all)? Because so many people choose the same names.
I.e.
*Sofia (#1) was used for 5,578 newborns (2.86%)
*Leonardo (#1) was used for 8,848 newborns (4.12%)
And lovely names like Delfina are desappearing. No way!
Later I'll come back to write some combos.
