[Facts] Re: For Mike: Markel is wrong

The source is a scholarly one and clearly reputable, but I am baffled by the fact that the Old Latin /k/ pronunciation should survive in the Basque language for this particular name. My gut feeling tells me that this cannot be the whole story of the name, even if it is later aligned with Spanish Marcello.

It is very likely one of the names invented by Sabino Arana (who aspired to create truly Basque names ex novo, thinking that the Spanish language had corrupted Basque onomastics) or inspired by his work. For example, it would be extremely unlikely that Cephas had evolved into Kepa naturally, but there's no need to it because it was created by Arana from scratch.

Arana lists it as the Basque equivalent of Spanish Marcial (i.e. Martial) or Marcelo. I think the entry here should be updated to reflect this, with a note explaining it was coined by Arana.
