Minerva is growing on me... sort of. I want to like it because it seems like the perfect name/nickname situation: grown up, strong Minerva and sweet, endearing Minnie. But I'm having a hard time getting over just finding Minerva plain old unattractive.
Mary, Miriam, and Miranda are great suggestions. I love names along those lines and like Mamie, Minnie is almost generically "M" enough to be suited for them. I'm on the fence about Hermione; I'm almost sorry to say that I've been really wanting to like it lately, but that I'd never heard it before Harry Potter came out makes it feel way too Harry Potter-ish for me. :-/ Hm. Dilemma. I'm giving it a chance, though.
