Minpins are more popular these days than they were in past years, so I'm not surprised you're spottin' 'em more easily than hummingbirds in yo' neck o' da woods. According to the American Kennel Club's registration statistics, the miniature pinscher is now listed in the #17 position of popularity for registered purebred dogs.
These statistics are unfortunate for the breed, of course. It means that there are an awful lot of minpins out there who are being bred by people who don't know what they're doing, or who are being given up by owners who didn't first research the temperament and needs of the breed before purchasing a puppy.
It keeps breed rescue volunteers such as myself pretty busy. In fact, I'm taking a drive out to the Bronx this Sunday to check out a potential home for a little foster I've got right now. If you still have the link to the IMPS homepage, you'll see a pic of my latest little foster there. :)
