I study Russian. If you notice a lot of Russian names end in "in" and "ov". That is because names are often made out of nouns and names, and if you have a feminine noun, you add -in and if you have a masculine noun you add -ov. Whoever said that the name was probably related to the name Yasha/Yakov (Jacob) is right (as far as I can tell). Just like Lenin's name came from Lena, Yashin comes from Yasha.
