The question you really need to ask is: What name written in Russian letters might have been transcribed as 'Weis' when your family left Russia. The only 'Russian' name that resembles Weis is 'Vays' but this is still the German name 'Weiss'. If your family was 'always' in Russia, I guess they changed their name at some point.
