I am Really unsure of this, but it seems like a reasonable guess. MY guess would be that it is somehow altered from a root name or the original name for "god" in many languages, de-/the- (Greek theos, Spanish dios, Italian dio, English root the- like in atheism or theology). There are ample German names that end in -tz, but the name might be Dutch...at any rate it seems to come from a Germanic language, the family of English, German, Dutch, Gothic (a dead language), etc.
