I searched for the name on ancestry.com and it said Erdal is most likely Norwegian or Swedish.

Arie is right, this is a Norwegian surname. It is also a place name, there are five or more places called Erdal in Norway. Doubtless the DAL component means "valley".
However Erdal is also a Turkish surname with a different meaning, and possibly German too.
