Tuf(f)nell has a number of anterior forms such as Tuf(f)nail, Tuf(f)nayl, Tuf(f)nall, etc. One source derives it from Anglo-Saxon *Tuffan+heall 'Tuffa's Hall' but this is not entirely convincing.
