May be related to the Pugliese surname Scialpi, whose basis is the word scialpo, said to mean "stutterer".
Still, I can't help wondering if this could be from a place name, possibly Arabic in origin, as are some Sicilian place ames and surnames. Only I can't find a place called Scialfa.
