From my Irish surname book ...
Mac Call: numerous: Ulster, especiallly East; Dublin & S Leinster. Irish format Mac Cathmhaoil (battle-chief). Originally a sept of Cineál Eoghain (Tyrone), there are many synonyms in English: Campbell, Mac Cowhill, Howell etc.
