Re: origin
Clutters comes from Clutter which is an americanization of German Klotter (see tinyurl.com/8w4elxm) which may be derived from the placename Klotten in Rheinland-Pfalz.

You'll find more information at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=ClutterClutter is also an English surname, but a rare one. The surname Clutter could also be from German Klutterer, name for a traveler entertainer.I'm not too sure about a French origin, but I'll look more into it.

I think the surname Clutters from the U.S. is of English origin. A variant of Clutter, it is from, "Middle English cloutere, clutere, an occupational name for a cobbler or patcher, from an agent derivative of cloute". The word "cloute" is also a French word, so Clutter has French connections.
