A surname Rigoli exists in Northern Italy.
It is considered a variant of Righi.
Both Righi and Rigoli comes from a given name "Arrigo" that has a german origin.

No longer going to refer to myself as man beast, You are absolutly right, and I fear that upon seeing Rigo in the R section I jumped to conclusions without really gathering any eveidance

A cursory glance at the references produced by a websearch suggests France as the home of many of this name. However, I think M.Sagani has pinned it down. The Y ending is probably a "francisation" of an Italian surname, as with Stephane Grapelly, Jean-Luc Ponty, etc.

A bit of ethno-linguistic background wouldn't come amiss. Are you referring to the Hungarian rigo?

I have noticed tha in Hungary one cand find Rigely and of course Rigoly could b e a new spelling.
