I once wrote a thesis on bioluminous molluscs with a Dr. Javinder Sarath. I'm afraid he didn't advise me as to the origins of the name, but I can assure you it was his surname. His family were born in Shorkot, Pakistan and moved shortly after his birth to Dublin.
