Re: Origin of Surname UTICK
in reply to a message by Michaela
I wonder if this could be an English language spelling of Utich or Utig, which are German surnames. They may derive from an old Germanic forename or be of Slavic origin, I'm not at all sure.

Thank you for your reply.
My great grandmother came to Australia as a free settler during the gold rush.1850-1900 She settled in Yalwal, a gold mining town near Nowra NSW
I have since discovered that she was one of two sisters who married two cruickshanks brothers so I have found I have kin right under my nose still living in the Nowra area of NSW.
My great grand mother died at 47 and we knew very little about her background because my great grandfather was very scottish and he pushed those traditions on my Grandfather and the culture of my great grandmother was suppressed.
She is from the Uteatsi family of Azerbaijan,Provence of Utik. Her father was Udis, an ancient tribe of Caucasian Albanians, living in Portugal and her mother was Portuguese.

I think the Uteatsi was changed to Utick to sound more European.

Strange that you did not mention any of this at the start. To quote the rule book, "If you are posting a question about the origin of a surname please include as much information as possible. Most important is the ethnic background."
Hey jerk
I did not know her ethnic backgound before I posted the message.
I have uncovered information through researching hundreds of archive documents and birth/death and naturilization records.
It is people like you deter people from researching there lost heritage. You are not at all helpful, just rude. There is no rule book for posting messages idiot. So pull your ignorant peasant head in and mind your manners.

Oh dear! Did I upset you? I was trying to be polite and not write that the stuff you posted was total crap. Utaetsi, Caucasian-Albanian-Portuguese? Stay away from genealogy and stick to mouthing off. That's your strong point.
