Do you think the second element may derived from the same source as the surname Rhodes? The Old English word rod(u) meaning "clearing" may be from the same root as the second element. If not it might be related to the Old Norse (?) word 'roth' meaning "sand" I think.

Is this Swedish? A place-name? There is a Swedish place-name, Mellerud. I think the first part means "middle". All speculation, of course.
