surname meaning
You can find this surname in Germany,Italy,Spain,USA,Argentina, Australia. Italian GANZA are from Lombardy, the area of COMO/SONDRIO, with at least two variants GANZA and GANZETTI. Both surnames could come from an old medieval first name GANZA, a feminine name.
However I do not know anything about the German or Spanish GANZA. Could anybody explain me please?

Thank you

The word Ganza may come from the German Gans or Renaissance French Ganse, both meaning goose. 'Ganza', from the renaissance French word 'ganse', was a kind of gut string used to adorn dresses; this is found in 'Dizionario Etimologico Battisti-Alessio. Gans comes from Sanskrit HANS.
