Silver may be an anglicization of "Silva" or "deSilva" which is Spanish/Portugese

Well there is the obvious ...that it means the mineral ...but more likely it is from Latin, 'Sylvanus' meaning woods or woodland ...or something to that effect. We still find in in Pennsylvania, Transylvania
