German Surname: Spleit
I haven't been able to find a meaning for this surname, as there seem to be very very few people in the world still carrying this name. The family I know comes from Germany, but the closest I can get to 'Spleit' in German (I speak it) is the verb "spielt" which comes from the verb "spielen - to play" and is conjugated in the 3rd person singular (as in he plays - er spielt). Do you have any theories on this name??

Your surnames is extremely rare in Germany: only one name in german directories. Spleit could be a variant of german surnames, very rare, like Splieth, Spliedt or Splitt.
So it could be a surname coming from the word "Splitt", in English "splinter" or "sliver".

Possibly a surname derived from an occupation or a nickname.
