Surname of Coalson
Am trying to determine the origin of a family name on my mother's side of the family. The last name was Coalson and my mother said it was Scandanavian, but didn't know what country it was. They tended to be very fair with blond hair and blue eyes. Does anyone know the country of origin?Thank you.

Colson was altered to Coalson in the early1800s as you can see at is.gd/bVoTb.

It's an English patronymic form of Cole:

To answer your question more specific: the name is of ancient Anglo-Saxon origin and the family of English origin. So no Scandinavian origin, it seems
