Ranieri surname origin
I am looking for some information about the origins of my surname, Ranieri. I know its meaning but am unsure of its original use as a surname, i.e. when, where, who etc. I have read little bits here and there but found several different stories.I would be grateful if anyone could help. Thanks.

Since Ranieri comes from Germanic Raginhari, as you say you know, it is simply a given name that became a family name as so many others did. Cognates exist in various other European languages including English Rayner, French Ré(g)nier, German and Dutch Reiner.
