Name: Puddifer
I have been trying to trace the meaning of my surname for a while. I believe it is old English. There are a handful of Puddifers scattered around Liverpool, Wales, Kent.

It's French in origin, pied-de-fer, meaning "iron foot". Pettifer, Pettiford, Pottiphar, and Puddipha are other versions, so it clearly gave the English some trouble. It's a nickname, suggested meaning, a good walker.
