actually, Andy isn't far from right, but the problem is that the meaning of the surname is inconclusive. there are more possibilities of which two could lead at the end to the same.

the dutch word for farmer is 'boer'. Buur means 'neighbour', but as the following site states, these two dutch words share the same linguistic root, thus if the surname Buursen is very old, it could well have the same meaning as Andy stated.

However it might also be related to the Dutch place Buurse, but the same site doesn't go into this much more than the suggestion with a question mark at the end.

since you're dutch you might better check out the site and search in the Database of Surname for Buursen and then also look further into the surname Buur (linked from there).

Without knowing any Dutch, I would still guess, that the name means "son of a farmer". Any competent people around to confirm (or correct) this?
