Re: Golding
From a male given name according to the experts. Basil Cottle says "son of Gold", and Paul Reaney gives instances of this as a forename, e.g., Golding Aldred of Clerkenwell, Middlesex in 1224. There is a place-name Golding in Shropshire, "valley where marigolds grow", Old English GOLDE DENU.
