Re: Surnames: Livanos, Niarchos, Truman
in reply to a message by M.S.
Well, Livanos and Livanis, Livanios, Livanion, the Spanish Livanez and Livanes, the Czech Livanec and many others are from a firstname and thus patronymic, but i can't find out the name (but there are a few hits at Google.com with Livanius and Livanus, but no saints).

From www.familychronicle.com:
TRUEMAN (British). "Trusty, faithful man."
TRUMAN (British). Commoner form of Trueman.

Niarchos:
There is an ancient Greek sailor called Niarchus or Niarkus who was part of the fleet of Alexander the Great and who is famous for writing as the first person (it is said) about the lands around the Indian Ocean, for example.
