According to a map on the GENS website which shows the distribution of this surname, it is best represented in the Piedmont region. Tron has a history in Piedmont as well as in Venice. So if we treat it as a Piemontese surname, consider that the word Tron means (meant?) "thunder" in the Piemontese dialect. A nickname for a noisy or an ill-tempersd person?

Questo è un cognome diffusissimo a San Pietro in Volta (isola della laguna di Venezia abitata fin dai primi secoli della cristianità) dove addirittura una zona del paese ha questo nome. Varie fonti attribuiscono a questo paese l'origine del cognome Ghezzo....]

Undoubtly (decidedly) Venetian with a second root in the "rovigoto" and one in Trieste (see Ghezzi), Ghezzo, in 900 arrived in Venezia coming from the "roccaforte" of Acri in Terra Santa, which was written down under the "patrizi veneti" and in 1270 entered in being part of the Maggior Consiglio. We found track of this same surname in Siena between the end of 1200 and the start of 1300 with monk Iacopo Ghezzo from Siena , Franciscan provincial father.

This is a much spread surname in San Pietro in Volta (island in the lagoon of Venice habitated the end of the first century of Christianity) where quite an area of land has this name. Various sources attribute to this land the origin of the surname Ghezzo.
