Re: Last name Cuell
If you have information on the meaning of Cuell are you willing to share it by posting on the message board? As I recall, we arrived at no firm conclusion in our discussion of the name.

Here is some material that I have accumulated over time. Most of it makes sense to me. The name Cuell is spelled in various ways – Cuell, Cuel, Cewell, Kewel, Kewell, Kuell, Kuelle – in various records. Its origins are difficult to place. It may derive from the Norman French ‘cuel’, meaning neck. Alternatively it may be a name derived from a place (now disappeared) in Somerset; or it could be derived from a Welsh word meaning thin; or it could be derived from a word meaning hazel. It could also be derived from the french word "cuillier, or marchand des cuillier" - a cutlery merchant.
