Emig
My grandfather's middle name is Emig, but he has no idea where it comes from or why he was named that. Google turns up several uses of Emig as a surname, and it seems to be German, but I can't find anything more than that. Does anyone have any information?

German: reduced form of Emmerich.
> 1. from a Germanic personal name composed of Old High German heim ‘home’, ‘house’ or amal ‘strength’ + rīhhi ‘powerful’, ‘rich’.
2. habitational name from any of the places on the Lower Rhine named Emmerich.
