Brestel
I'm looking for this surname: BRESTEL
I think it's German. It's the surname of my grandparents. My grandfather's family came from Eastern Germany (now Poland).

I like your side a lot, Mike! Simply great!

By the way - the Frisian language is not only spoken in the northern part of Holland and on the Frisian Islands but also in Germany:
Nordfriesland (the western part of Schleswig-Holstein including the islands) and Ostfriesland (the northwestern part of Lower Saxony including the islands)

My Brestels came over from Baden Germany. It is believed that they originated in France in the Lorraine district.
In what part of the United States did your Brestels settle?

I've been searching for the meaning, but I have come up with nothing. Somehow, Brestel makes me think of Bristol, maybe Brestel is a variant of that name?

Thanks for searching, Lucille!I think Brestel might have something to do with either Bressel (which comes from the town of Breslau) or Bretzel (pretzel), but I'm really not sure if I can be right... Yes, Bristol sounds quite similar but I couldn't find any connections...
Well, I'll keep searching. Thanks so much for helping me!

Judith
