Tore
Is the last name "Tore" Italian? Because I know a family on my street with that last name, and they're Italian, but they pronounce it like Tor.

It is extremely rare in Italy, in fact it is concentrated in SARDINIA, but it is absolutely local.
It could come from the masculine first name Salvatore or from name of places especially for the variant Torelli.
See also the variant Turi, typical of Sicily.
In Italian it is pronounced "tawreh" the final "e" is not silent.

I'll take a guess here ...it's probably from a Latin base so it can be found in several of the Romance languages. It probably comes from "taurus" meaning a "bull" or male cattle ...
