Have you heard of the surname Axelson? I was just wondering because it's my great-great grandmother Margaret's surname.

It should be a scandinavian surname, probably swedish: derived from the first name Axel.

It's certainly related to the word "Axe" obviously a cutting tool of considerable importance in ancient days ...I found a Latin base ...

I've seen Axel explained as a Scandinavian form of the biblical name Absalom. Is anyone convinced?

I believe there is a hockey player in the NHL named Per Johan Axelson

He's from Sweden, maybe it's a Swedish name?

She'd have to be Norwegian, not Swedish.
