Origin of 'Knizek'
I've always been told that my friends last name originates from Czech, Slovak, or German.
Does anyone know where it originates and what it was intended to represent/mean?

It's Slavic. It may also be Czech but it's spelled differently and means something different.
Most probably, that name originates from Czeck or Slovak. Probably, it comes from the Slavic "kniga" (Czeck "kniha") meaning "book". Less probably, it comes from "knez" (unclear vowel change!) meaning "prince".
