candian surnames
Please include Candian names on your website. My name is Chicoine. All I know about it is that it is French Canadian. I want to know what it means.

American names aren't included either nor Mexican ...it's because their roots all lie somewhere else ...mostly Europe. So, your best bet is to advocate for Native American names ... but they're already there ...at least the first names ...
According to the French site: www.jtosti.com/noms this surname comes from the Northern Frenche region of Britany (Bretagne).
The origin is not really clear: it could come from the verb "chicaner"
that is to quibble or to cavil. So in fact a nickname for a lawyer or a person who works in a judicial sphere.

This reply was not showing on the board when I posted mine. Still I think lawyer and liar are pretty much the same thing.
Chicoine, Chicouanne, Chicoineau, Chicanne - all surnames equivalent to he Modern French chicaneur, let's say someone who's economical with the truth.
