Re: African Surnames
well, this is a website about surnames that have "vulcan" as a meaning in it. Traore according to this site means "New Zealandian vulcan". The last part constantly means "vulcan"

I think we should treat this website with caution. The author's purpose seems to be to find names containing the combination RA and then claim a reference to the Egyptian sun god. He also has a thing about volcanoes. Whatever the meaning of the Manding clan name Traore (also spelt Tarawiri) I'll bet my life that it has no relation to the Maori name of a volcano in New Zealand. As soon say that my name, Young, proves that I am Chinese.
With regard to the surname Asare, Ghanaian surnames for which I've found an explanation have always turned out to be male given names. So I think there's a good chance that it's a patronymic.

about Asare...it is patronymic, because i found quite some people with Asare as a given name. I don't believe Traore is a given name though.
