Am looking for origin and meaning of surname Maxfield.
I understand suffix of 'field' indicates topographical region of place person is from.
Would prefix 'max' indicate large expanse or more like father's first name?
Not sure if this is english, german or elsewhere. Any assistance is most appreciated!
