Help with a name
I was wondering if anyone knew the meaning behind the name Betzilos? It was my great grandfather's name (one of the many) I was also trying to find how to spell it in Greek. His full name is Anastasios Demitrius Betzilos.

Thought I'd throw this in ...could it possibly be related (at least in root) to basilica?
See: 1541, from L. basilica "building of a court of justice," and, by extension, church built on the plan of one, from Gk. (stoa) basilike "royal (portal)," the portico of the archon basileus, the official who dispensed justice in Athens, from basileus "king" (see basil). In Rome, applied specifically to the seven principal churches founded by Constantine.

Leslie,
Betzilos: ÌÐÉÔÆÇËÏÓ, ÌðéôæÞëïò in Greek. This rare name is found in the Peloponnese.

Any chance of a transliteration into roman letters, Leslie. It looks like there are nine letters in the original Greek. I'm guessing that means MP for the B sound. So Mpetzilos? Mpetsilos? Mpetzélos? Or...?
I've tried googling various permutations of the Greek letters without a hit. Are the diacritical marks essential? That would increase the possibilities even further.

Sorry! Margi, not Leslie.
It is Mpitzelos: Mu, Pi, Iota, Tau, Zeta, Eta, Lamda, Omikron, Sigma.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, at least I can find examples of the name now, though I've still no idea of the meaning.
