Levario
Levario origin unknown, possibly Italian.
In Spain it is spelled lebario, but it is not a common name there.
In Italy, there are lerario also, spelled l'erario and erario not common name there either. If you have any info. please contact me at ilmyco@sbcglobal.net

There's Levari, Levaretti, Levarelli and Levarotti, all meaning "son of Levaro/Levario" (the endings -etti, -elli and -otti are diminutives). There's also the Basque surname Lebario and a Basque place called Lebario. My guess Lebario and the Italian names Levari, Levario, etc. are not related, but that's just my guess. The meaning of Levarus might be connected with the Italian levare (from Latin levare ) meaning "to lift up, to rise up".

My husband and I will be in Bilbao on the 5th of September and would like to visit Lebario, Spain. My mother's maiden name was Levario. We understand our heritage came from Lebario, Spain. I would like to receive further information on the history of Lebario and their journey to Mexico and the U.S.
Is there a city office in Lebario where I can learn about the history of Lebario?Thank you.Joanne LePoidevin

My research shows that the original term was Erario. The Italian word meaning tax collecter.
Then the term/name evolved to L' Erario
Then the name changed to Lebario when the southern half of present day Italy became part of Spain.(Which a lot of historians have forgotten).
That is how a lot of Spainards with Italian names first arrived to the Americas.
Lastly, you can see in census that the name changed to the presnt day spelling
"Levario" during the time when the Spanish language began replacing many of their terms/letter's from b to using the letter v in many of their words.

Levario is simply an alteration of Lebario as you can see at tinyurl.com/y742ykz7, for example. The origin of the surname is the placename Lebario in the Basque Country in Spain. There is nobody named Lebario or Levario in Italy as you can see at tinyurl.com/yaw2hoqc.

At the moment in Italy one could only find three LEVARI on italian telephone directories.
Some Levario existed i Southern Italy in PUTIGNANO (near BARI)in XIXth century.
Levari could it be a jewish surname from Levi? Most probably the Levario came from Spain like many families in Southern Italy.
