My father belongs to this family and he searched a lot in the last years in regard to his name. Karrenbauer is a family name common only in a small region of germany (Saarland)The name did not come from a profession but from the name of a farm near by Püttlingen. The farm's name was "Karen" and it is still known as a field name ("Kar" is a geographic term that means "cirque"). "Bauer" means "Farmer".
So the meaning of the name is just the farmer from the farm "Karen".
