Merival
I came across the last name Merival in a list of surnames given to me by a friend over on the opinions name board a few years ago.
Since then I've done little research on it, but what little I've done seems to suggest that the name is either English or possibly from Australia/New Zealand (I assume by way of England). Does anyone have any information on Merival as far as history, origin, or meaning?Thank you very much.-Seda*

I think it is English. There are villages called Merrivale in Devon and in Herefordshire, and the place name could be the origin of the surname. If that is the case, it probably means "pleasant valley". The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has several entries for indivuals named Merivale, all of one family. It says of the surname that it is in the Parish Register of Middleton Cheney, Northamptonshire, spelt Merivayle, from 1558 0nwards.
