Re: Pronunciation of the Swedish name MANKELL
in reply to a message by Andy ;—)
Hello
Being of Swedish origin i have decided to try and help you out.
THe reasons for people pronounce it man-KELL may be because the swedish word man means "one" and although Kell is not a word in Swedish, kel, cell, kall, kela, koll and kull are, and it is possible that Mankell could have two different meanings in the long term, with seperate pronounciations...so it could mean one who is cold in one context and something different otherwise, although the spelling may be exactly the same or similar...i hope i was a good help

Thank you so much! This was helpful indeed. But how would a Swede pronounce the name? How would you? How does the author himself pronounce it?
As "Mun-KELL"
Our "man" is pronounced just like the German "Mann"
