The German surname KALCHBRENNER or (more common) KALKBRENNER literally translates "chalk burner", i.e. someone working at lime works ("burning" the chalk to make mortar).

the geogen website counts only four instances of this name in Germany, but 77 in Austria. In fact , of the three spellings, Kalk-, Kalck-, and Kalch-, it is last that is best represented in Austria, the first in Germany.
