I would like to know were it came from/ what it means
The Criners in my family came from the Palatinate region of Germany which is near France/Luxembourg. Does that mean they are ethnic Germans or Flemish or what?

Judging by the genealogical data at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gsimmons75&id=I16030, Criner is an Americanization of German Kreiner which is apparently derived from the Latin name Quirinus.
