"Joy" surname info
My family's name is Joy. I don't know much of my father's family history, only that they're of European descent and *may have* emmigrated to North America via the Mayflower. If you need any more information, I'll try my best to get answers.

Joy is an English surname, belonging mainly to the southern counties. There are several possible meanings: the given name of a femaile ancestor, or, less likely, a male ancestor; a nickname identifying a joyful person; or an ironic description of a joyless person. All in all, I'd plump for the first explanation as the most likely.
