It is a regional surname of Tuscany common in provinces like Pisa, Lucca or Livorno (Leghorn).
The real origin is not clear: probably it comes from an old nickname that could come from a word like "brindello", indicating a "ragged person".It is the surname of a popular italian soccer player Alessandro Birindelli, born in Pisa in 1974.
